Shared conventions for designing printable robot parts that fit together. Start with the quickstart, then use the specifications when you model a connection or describe an assembly.
These are draft project standards. The dimensions and examples describe our current conventions; some details are still being developed.
One connection, many parts#
The interface uses nominal 5 × 5 mm square bars and 2 mm screws. Receiving holes and notches stay fixed at 5 × 5 mm on the shared grid. Only the connectors are reduced for clearance: 4.8 mm gives 0.1 mm per side, and 4.6 mm gives 0.2 mm per side. Notches follow a 5 mm grid, and printed male connectors are normally centred on their notches with a maximum 4.8 × 4.8 mm cross-section.
Start with a connection#
The quickstart walks through the reference grid, socket clearance, screw positions and intended print orientation. Understand the interface before modelling a complete holder.
Use the specifications#
- 5×5 mechanical standard — dimensions, spacing, fastening, printing and CAD examples.
- Structure notation — parts, sensors, rigid links and joint axes.
Find parts to print#
The parts catalogue includes an AA battery box and an STS3215 servo holder, with previews and STL downloads. Check each design against the draft before adapting it.
